It's only a book, no need to get so angry. A love story can be written in a different way. For my taste the style was too cheesy and the word dazzle is like so annoying for me right now. Just because Bella is the teller, doesn't mean the style has to be that way and Bella is shown as a intelligent person, so I would expect a different style. Just because there is a vampire in a story, doesn't make the story special. Read Anne Rice...that is special. By special I meant the whole book, the whole story, the whole package and not the fact that there was a vampire in it. IMHO the book could be shorter. I wasn't really interested in what she does exactly in the morning or for dinner or whatever else. Things like that were unnecessary. I'm sure everyone can agree with me that Edward is a god!!! Honestly, every single girl wants to fall in love with him. I can't agree. I wouldn't want to have a bf like him. By the way, this is what happens when you say you don't like a book on a fan board where everyone LOVESSSSSSSSSS it Freedom of speech. And btw this is only a book. And you can't expect everybody to love it. IMHO it's not a great book. It's a quick read but nothing deep.

I have to disagree with the last part you said, I mean ive read tons of books that are not deep at all, and sure twilight doesnt compare to moving books such as 'my sisters keeper' when it comes to being deep, but to me it still is. Its as deep as a love story can be, because for example with Edward- he's never been in love before and has never had anyone, considering he's stuck as 17 forever (now thats got to be horrible in his situation, that he had plans for his future to join the army, get married, and then suddenly his parents are dead, and he's with this other person whos saying 'guess what? now your a vampire, you cant live normal anymore) -and Bellas his first love in what 100 years? And that he's always been alone, and unhappy with what he is, but Bella helps him accept that, just look at the part after the meadow where he's gone from being so worried and unhappy to funny and always laughing, basically she changes him. And Bella also, she has a simple life, never really fitted in, her mum was unhappy in a roundabout way because of her, Charlies not really affectionate, so she also doesnt really have anyone, so along comes Edward.. and he's different, and brings with him what she believes doesnt exist so he's exciting and dangerous, but at the same time he can kill her easily, but doesnt. Gah, I went into too much detail there lol summary is though; that no, its not the most deep book, but it still is deep, to a teenage love story extent, its hardly going to be shakespeare!!! Also with the book being long, its just trying to show Bella as an average person, someone who people can relate to, its never too detailed either, doesnt most books do that anyway? Have characters at least write about what they're doing once in a while? Im just curious..

I agree with you, em! For me it's just a great love story that takes my mind of from things because it's so easy written and not that deep. My life is dramatic enough and I want a book in which I can relax and I love to read about how they found each other and all. For me, it goes beyond a regular love story and that makes this so special! And I love that it is so long! I didn't want to have it a letter shorter!

I have to agree here with Em and Anna. I think that even though this book is not as deep and emphasized as books by Jane Austen, Anne Rice and Nicholas Sparks. The fact that this book was written for a teen age group, it's going to be written to a point where those teens can understand it and relate to it.
The book is long, yes. But look at Breaking Dawn (Book 4) it's almost twice as long as the first book, but it's so jam-packed with so much information that it's worth reading a book that long. Look at Moby D*ck, it's a LONG book, but there is so much that Melville wanted to tell that it ended up being that long because it's a masterpiece!
The legnth of the book doesn't say whether its good or not, it just a number of pages. It's what is on those pages that makes all the difference for each and every person.
We get that some people will not like the book, but I am glad that most people do, otherwise they would have never made the decisions to make the movies. This also makes me think back to Harry Potter. I hated reading those books, I think they are childish and stupid. But I love the movies.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions...but Cloe is right...since we all love this book series here, it's almost dangerous to talk about NOT liking it. LOL.

Yeah, I agree with you, Meg! I've never read that Moby book, but I think that Twilight couldn't have missed one page, because it's totally how Bella is and how she sees her world and it's great that she gives so many details!!
Altho I can't agree about Harry Potter. Because I loved those books and hated the movies haha.
But there is something else that I consider in all of this. When I finished Twilight, I gave it to my mom, she even finished it faster than I did, the same goes for the last book of Harry Potter (altho I readed it in english and she in dutch), so to me, that means that the writting isn't childish, but easy written.
And I just love big books!!!

That's just it, Stephanie Meyer wrote the book by Bella's perspective. I think it's good that she did that, and I am glad that it spells out everything to well because it makes the whole book easy to picture in my head. But I too have had other "adults" that I know read it and they all love it as well. Not just because it's a love story and all, but because it's a good story and everyone dreams of finding their one "true love" and Edward is Bella's. I think just about anyone can relate to this book.

I'm sorry but how can you compare Twillight to Moby D*ck? For me the length of a book is important because sometimes you have 500 pages of a great story but sometimes you have 500 pages filled with not important stuff, like making your homework or eating your breakfast. This is nothing I'm interested in. If I was a teenager I would be offended to be honest but I'm not any more. Any way. My point is, that writing for teenager doesn't mean you have to write in such a simplistic language and teenager do know what synonyms are, so I would expect different words for describing his smile, his teeth or whatever. I read Harry Potter couple of years ago and enjoyed it much more then Twillight. I have my POV, you guys have yours.

Erm, who was comparing them? I didnt see any actual comparisons, just comparing the length of the books not the storylines or style..
I dont get it, why would twilight offend teenagers? Stephenie has said before that shes aiming at the average teenager- someone who doesnt like the parties and is average looking etc.. I dont understand how it could be offensive..
To me, I can completely relate to Bella, and its not like theres tons of pages of her writing her actions! Its only brief to set the scene!
And I agree with Meg and Cloe, maybe this isnt the best place to post negative comments about the book because to be honest, although i know that not everyones going to lik the book I still dont like reading negative comments about it, because its my favourite book, its the same with OTH, i have actually got kind of annoyed once when i heard some people at my school insulting it you know?

For me it was a comparison. Because Moby D*ck is long but it's a total different language or style. By mentioning the length of Twillight I didn't mean I don't like long books or whatever, there were just many parts I could live without. For me the language choice as the language teenager can relate to is weird. A writer doesn't need to write in a simplistic way to get to a teenage audience. OK, I won't post on the Twillight board any more...though I find it weird that you react so offended. It's only a book and this is a board.

Okay, I do get Em's pov and why she reacts like this! It my favorite book too and I too can relate really good with Bella, so I'm offended too. And for some people a book isn't JUST a book, it's something that they love and people would get offended to if you speak negative about a best friend or stuff like that.
Meg wasn't comparing Moby dick with Twilight, she just said compared the number of pages and used it as an example! Not to compare a teenbook with an, idk, adultsbook.

OK, I won't post on the Twillight board any more...though I find it weird that you react so offended. It's only a book and this is a board. Why its weird? I dont find it weird because its who i am (not the book of course!) but the way i react to things Because like i said there was one time at school that I had to hear girls saying 'Wow, I love the OC!' and so i say 'ever heard of one tree hill?' and then they go on to insult it loads, and I dont know why but i just get offended by it because its an interest, something i do in my free time, so ultimately its important to me. And after that I just had to listen to them praising the OC and continue insulting it, yet i didnt say anything because at the time I was the only one who liked One tree hill (now ironically all them girls love one tree hill, i was irritated when i found out! lol, anyway not the point..) But its the same with twilight, admittedly i do love these books a lot, ive recommended twilight to so many people, I even got Cloe into the books and my sister! And sent it for the book group! So I just get offended, I dont really mind if I seem weird because of it, because its just the way I am

I agree!! I'm totally the same when it comes to OTH or Twilight or even Macintos, which I really like too, I get offendended about it and I start to discuss about it, and I will defend my favorite! I think that everyone would do that.

I don't know if Pi will read this board again now...but I was not comparing the story of Moby dick to Twilight. I was comparing the number of pages. I don't think you can compare these two books, they were written in two different lifetimes and of course the styles and all will be different.
Melville published Moby dick in 1851. Twilight was published in 2005. I do believe there is a HUGE change in writing styles and formats in those many years.
On another note: We don't mind you stating you opinions, we accept them as that, opinions. We have our own as well. I just wanted to say that when a person likes something (book, movie, tv show) they are going to stand up for it and if you don't like it, why would you get on a forum that LOVES it and talk bad about it? Same goes with One Tree Hill and this fan forum, we welcome all opinions, but if someone hates the show so much, why continue to watch it at all?? Why not move on to something else to devote time to?
I just don't get it. I know some of the storylines for season six are not that great, but they make for good drama, which is what OTH is, a teen drama. If you don't agree with it, that is fine. But just know that the ones that like it will "fight" back with their own opinions.
Moving on: I love Twilight, not only because it's an easy read, but because it's a nice story to follow. It has love, some action, some suspense, and lots of supernatural creatures. I think it's an exciting tale of young love and the attraction that goes along with it. I think since the story is being told by Bella, a simple small town girl...I think it's written perfectly to match her personalility and lifestyle. It shares her thoughts, fears, and feelings about everything and it helps you get a true and real feeling about how she really is.
The other books sum up everything I am saying and I feel like you can not judge this book series until you have read all four books. I think that reading all four gives you all the insight you need into the lives of Bella and Edward...and then you can decide if you truly hate them or not. I don't think a decision can be made on just the first book. Not completely.
I also think that it's great that I too have given this book to women I work with and my sisters and we all love the books as well. Not to mention we are all older than the proposed age that Stephanie Meyer wrote the book for. That has to say something.

Sure, you're allowed your opinions but whatever we say, you are fighting against it which tells me that you're just trying to pick a fight. The girls weren't even comparing Moby dick (i love that its censoring that word haha lol) to Twilight and yet you were starting a argument over that.
If you want a fight, fight with me. Don't bother wasting a board

I agree with you, Meg, about the books, altho I still haven't read the last 2 books! haha.
And Cloe, to be honest, you have a good point!!
I agree with both of you and I don't get why you would discuss something that you don't like. Sure, I've read books that I don't like, but I forget about them and don't ever go into a topic to talk about it. Sure, I can mention it now and than something about a book that I don't like, but I will never go to a topic about it and discuss and keep discussing why I don't like it. But that's just me.
