What do you do? Do you buy all your books in a bookstore or do you rent them at your libary?
I was wondering, because I work in a bookstore, but I rent all the books that I read from the libary. Only a few now and than I buy one that they don't have in the libary or are from my favorite writer.
So I was wondering what you all do!

All the Nicholas Sparks books I buy, because I read and re-read them over and over again. But most others I rent or get someone else to buy for me at Christmas time.

I buy I went down to my local library recently to find some books, and felt out of place.. all the books aren't to my taste at all, too old, and all the others are too far away for me to bother! Usually i only buy books if ive had them recommended, or if they're on an offer with others, to prevent wasting money, sometimes i buy online- cheap and home delivered

Nice!! And do you buy many books? And if you buy a book, do you buy the pocket version or paperback?

I typically buy, and when I do I try to get the paperback (cheaper) but if I ask for it for a holiday, I ask for the hardback cover (lasts longer). But I try to go to the bookstore and get books that are on sale cheap and read those before I buy new ones. I try to let them be out a while before I get them to let the price go down. But if I buy it new (Nick Sparks) it's usually on sale for the first week it is out, so I go ahead and get it because I will read and re-read it.

I just try to buy the hard cover most of the times, if there aren't any hardcovers of the book yet I buy the paperback. And I buy my english books in pockets, because otherwise they get really expensive and I'm still afraid that I don't get the book that good when it's in english, so it's cheaper this way. But I try to rent it from my libary most of the times! I love to read as much as possible and it's too expensive to keep buying books.

I know what you mean. I really only buy the book myself when it's cheap or when I know I will read it more than once.

Ive generally almost always got at least one (new one) to read, so yeah And i buy the paper back almost always, they dont really sell pocket versions here.. and i must be one of the only ones who avoids buying hardbacks! They're really heavy and cost a lot more haha ;D

haha, funny! I try to buy as less paperbacks as possible. Probably because they don't handle easy when I read in bed. Not that pockets do, but that's just because they are cheap.

Mostly I rent them or I go to my sister's book collection. or I borrow books from my BF, and she borrows some from me. I don't buy books very often but when U can't get it in any library I buy it - like the English versions of Gossip Girl, here there are only the polish translations so I have to buy them. I also like to get books as gifts. I prefer paperbacks because they are easier to carry, they are not that heavy and don't need so much space in my purse or rucksack. and they are easier to hold in your hands. and they are cheaper.

Well I like both buying and renting. I buy the books I read in English (I can't remember the last time I bought a book in Croatian), and I borrow books in the library all the time. I buy books that interest me if I can't find them anywhere else. I buy books in English beacuse they are cheap here, and I love reading in English, and have a huge bookstore with English books near, so I'm loving it.

I buy or borrow. My sister and I exchange books to save on the cost. She is in a book club and I on the other hand find books when they are first coming out and are on sale. We love it because we are able to read different styles this way. The book club she is in sends different authors all the time. I tend to stick to a few authors so we exchange so I don't do that. I help her because I tend to buy books that don't come from her book club. Works out pretty well. But I also stick to paperbacks because I can't afford three hard books a week.

It's great that you can borrow your books from your sis and backwards! It's a nice way to read a lot and save with the price indeed!

I agree.
My Mom's Mom sent me a bunch of books recently...and I am still trying to read my way through those before I buy any new ones.

My sister has a lot of books - old, new...she bought a lot of them in second-hand bookshops so there are many great books nearly for nothing. and sometimes it's a publication from 1950 or even earlier. And now all her books are in my flat because she is England and we've sold our old flat and all the books are now here until she does something with them. She also got a huge amount of books in German from a guy who was moving back to Germany and didn't want to take him with him and he gave them to her.
