Science fiction for people who don't like science fictionMelanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed. When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love. Excerpt: www.stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/thehost_chapter4.pdf

Yeah i have ;D I love it! Its really different to twilight.. but its got a really good story behind it, all different kinds of love- like family, relationships.. etc.. It takes a while to get going, but around 100 pages in [its 640 pages long!] it gets really great! Another of those you barely stop reading! I would recommend it to anyone ;D

Yeah she is! I love her style of writing! In this book the style of writing is the same as twilight, all from 1st person [being from Wanderers point of view] and its just really good! ;D
I actually like books best when they're 1st person, i dont know why.. but probably because you can kind of indentify with whoevers talking if that makes sence?!

Yeah, I agree with that! I love books written from an I-person more too! For me, I just feel more into the story. If it's written from I, I feel like I'm in the story! And I can pretend the story in my mind better! Altho I have to say that I also love the way that Harry Potter is written!
And about Stephanie, yeah, I love her style so much too!!

I love 1st person 'cause you get to experience everything with them where as in 3rd person, you get different persepectives and the bad guy might say something so you'll know what will happen but in 1st person, it'll be a suprise
The Host took me a while to get in to. If it wasn't for Emma, i'd probably never finish it as soon as i did. It's a good story, i just prefer Twilight

I don't think any other books I have ever read or will read will compare to the Twilight Saga.

I'm not sure I will, I usually just see how the book itself is, but I might don't like them as much as I like Twilight!

The Host by Stephanie Meyers
Reviewed by Charles Devilbiss 6:17 PM EDT, July 22, 2008
In this body-snatcher love story, an invasion of alien parasites wreaks peace on Earth by quietly subduing the human race.
In an intriguing take on the sci-fi tradition of subverted will, Stephanie Meyers -- whose popular teen vampire series, 'Twilight,' is poised for another success with the impending release of "Breaking Dawn" -- sidesteps classic political allegory. Instead, she focuses on the emotional consequences of stolen lives, specifically the bizarre love triangle between a man, a woman, and the alien inserted in the woman's brain.
Though the soap-operatic core and exhaustive length of the story leave her astute observations on cultural assimilation somewhat diminished, Meyer's embrace of romance over cold rationality is an entertaining diversion in this most protected pocket of speculative fiction.

Yeah, I know the feeling, I don't wanna buy it either, so I'm waiting on my library too! Can't you order it at your library? Ask them to get it?? I did that with Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse and they just bought it and I could read it as first. But I'm not sure how that system works in America!
