KRISTEN STEWART: Just Scratching the Surface! Is she ready for the big time?
People have been asking, why not do a piece on Kristen Stewart? Actually we already did, many weeks ago, when we featured her new movie called Yellow Handerchief, but we are always happy to oblige. So in celebration of Miss Stewart's budding career as an actress, we've come up with our own look into her work so far...
The young actress has yet to prove her mettle when it comes to leading roles, especially in terms of her ability to attract audiences and do something with box office receipts and the like. But if we look back at some of her previous roles, we'll see that there is something special about this young girl - and it's what keeps the Twilight fans asking for more.
I first saw Kristen in David Gordon Green's Undertow with Jamie Bell. It was a supporting role but her presence lingered. She may not be the most glamorous young actress in Hollywood today, but she definitely has screen presence. Her short but memorable role made me curious. Who is Kristen Stewart?
"Not just because I worked with her but Jodie Foster is obviously a role model. She's not just an actress, she's not one-dimensional. She has more than one creative outlet. She's a writer, a producer, a director. She has a pretty level head on her shoulders and I like the idea that she can keep her personal life private and separate from what she does. I admire most of her values. She's pretty cool."
I think that says a lot about Kristen. Having worked with Jodie Foster certainly made a big impression on the actress, and some of her roles actually mirror the early career choices made by Oscar-winning actress herself.
Her role choices remain consistent and diverse - she has played a mix of serious and light roles - as a victim of date rape in Speak, as an aspiring singer and loner in Into the Wild, as a young girl falling in love in In the Land of Women. You can't accuse her of picking boring roles, can you?
Is she the next Jodie Foster? There was a survey recently conducted - I forget exactly who did it - but Foster was quoted as saying (in reply to the question regarding who she thinks is following her footsteps) that Dakota Fanning looks like it.
Fans of Kristen certainly disagreed and made it their business to say so. I also have no idea what the final results looked like but to think she can muster such a huge number of fans to rally for her says a lot.
But is she as good as Foster? Maybe not at the moment but with a few more challenging roles and with working with some of the best filmmakers, she certainly has a good chance. But I think she's on her own as a young and promising talent.
"I remember when I was little, I didn't have any inhibitions. I wasn't embarrassed about doing anything. When you get older, I don't know what it is, it's not that you get more insecure, you're just maybe more self-aware. It's just kind of something that happens. You try to do the best you can and that's pretty much all you can do."
That's the kind of attitude you don't often see in many Hollywood's celebrities and that's what separates Miss Stewart from the more publicity-hungry gals.
tMF Top 5 Kristen Stewart movies: Our poll puts Kristen at the top of the rankings among the top 30 hottest young actresses. While fans of other young talents might disagree, let's list five of her movies that might make you change your mind about Kristen:
1. Speak (2004): Kristen plays teenager Melinda Sordino who enrolls in high-school while dealing with a great deal of rejection and becomes practically mute as a result. Her school mates and friends call her "squealer" because she called the police during a summer party; she does not have a close relationship with her mother, Joyce Sordino (played by Elizabeth Perkins), who is workaholic and permanently busy; and she has a problem with a very radical teacher. She finds great support from her arts teacher Mr. Freeman (Steve Zahn) and her school friend David Petrakis (Michael Angarano). She recalls her traumatic experience in the summer school, when she was raped, and learns how to deal with the situation and get her life back together again. Remarked a viewer:
"Kristen Stewart's the complete embodiment of Melinda. She does things with her face that actors twice her age with twice her experience only wish they could do."
2. Into the Wild (2007): Sean Penn's acclaimed movie and Emile Hirsch's career-defining role also gave Kristen Stewart the chance to shine. As Tracy Tatro, she plays the love interest of the Hirsch character and gets to sing in front of an audience. Says Kristen:
"Music is one of the most emotionally expressive things you can do. If I’m not feelin’ it, I can’t sing. Those two nights [where she sings for a crowd in the film], something was going on. It’s not always that you can give that much. But, yeah, it’s intimidating. I went in and played "Blackbird” for him. That’s a hard song to sing to. I’m not a singer. I can play it but he was really funny about it. He asked me if I didn’t want him to look at me. "Do you want me to turn around?” "No, you have to see it.” But, I’d never done anything like that. It takes a guy like Sean to make you come to it and pump out the words."
3. In the Land of Women (2007): They look good together, Kristen and Adam Brody. Although Kristen needs to soften up and be a bit more hilarious, I think her understated acting played quite well opposite Brody's often wacky character. Brody is certainly the only young actor in The O.C. who can act. But this kind of movie gave Kristen the chance to work with A-list talents like Meg Ryan.
4. Undertow (2004): An absolutely gem of a film, this David Gordon Green features stars Josh Lucas, Jamie Bell and Dermot Mulroony. Not for everyone, but certainly one of the most original and exciting movies I've seen. Kristen plays Lila, Chris Munn's (played by Jamie Bell) love interest. Its a short role and she made quite an impression.
5. Panic Room (2002): While critics lambasted the movie, there is no denying that a new talent was born. Kristen plays the teenage daughter of Jodie Foster who are imprisoned in the panic room of their own house by three criminals.
The Last Word: As Twilight fans await the November release of the movie, many are wondering how Kristen will play Bella? Says Kristen:
"Bella is a very honest... I mean, I could relate to her because she's just a very straight-up, good-natured girl who found herself in an insane position... [She's] seemingly logical, and then all of the sudden she's thinking of herself as a psychotic person and [she's] just swept away by something more powerful than her. Every girl wants to lose herself. And Bella started out hard and just lost it, and that's what I really loved about it."

MTV have a new article about Twilighters being furious that Robert Pattinson got cut off at the VMAs. Strolling into an aisle to introduce a performance by Paramore in a re-creation of Hollywood's Whisky a Go Go, the actors each took a turn reciting their lines — but before Pattinson could conclude their moment in the sun, Brand cut off the 22-year-old heartthrob. Read it here: www.mtv.com/news/articles/1594400/20080908/index.jhtml

I was so annoyed at the whole VMA thing, i watched it last night because it was on here, and i wish i didnt, after all the promoting MTV did saying that the cast would be on there, they were only on for 30 seconds and Rob didnt even get to speak, i felt so annoyed! Afterall Rob is the main character and it was him that got cut off! The reaction from fans was crazy though! Theres proof on the first MTV article- MTV- watch the twilight stars hit the vma stage Afterall over 550 replies of complaints! Maybe it was a little too extreme, but i guess people get really annoyed and defensive by things and MTV have always known how much the fanbase care about the movie/cast/books so for them to promote it and then do this was wrong really

Yeah it is... Luckily its all calmed down, because in an interview recently about it Robert said it didnt really bother him that much, (he was happy about how much the fans backed him up though) So if it didnt really bother him then its okay, just hopefully MTV dont do it again, like promote all of it.. only for it to be a big let down and a waste of time again

Robert Pattinson is ScruffyCheck out this new photo of a scruffy Robert Pattinson from the L.A. Times. The 22-year-old Twilight star is becoming increasingly recognizable to the general public. “It’s one of these phenomena that come out of nowhere, and everything about your career is completely different,” he tells Variety. “Every 13-year-old girl in the entire country has read this, and you can almost guarantee wherever you go you’ll hear, ‘Oh my god! It’s Edward Cullen.’ …I’m sort of signed on for another two, but it’s all dependent on what happens at the box office. There’s also video footage of the 22-year-old Twilight star getting mobbed at an airport in Mexico. OMG RPattz!!! The upcoming film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s 2005 best-selling novel of the same name will be released everywhere on November 21. Source: JJ

I kind of like Robs look now ;D Its kind of sexy, in a rugged, british, unkempt kind of way lol! Kind of like the slightly older Noah in the notebook! But there and again ill rarely critisise Rob, people say negative things about him for everything hence why he's so unconfident about himself, and was kind of worried about how to play Edward, so when it comes to his look he needs a break!

FIRST LOOK: ROBERT PATTINSON AND JAVIER BELTRAN IN LITTLE ASHESBack in November 2007, I posted about a new film called Little Ashes that would detail the intimate relationship between Spanish artist Salvador Dalí and poet Federico Garcia Lorca. Harry Potter and soon-to-be-released Twilight actor Robert Pattinson had been signed up to play Dalí. Javier Beltran was later signed up to play Lorca, and these are some of the first shots. Last November, the Guardian wrote: "Described by its producers as 'racy' and 'sexy', the film will show Dalí and Lorca's feelings deepen into a love affair which the sexually repressed artist tries and fails to consummate. As a substitute, Lorca sleeps with a female friend, with Dalí present as a voyeur. The interpretation, by British screenwriter Philippa Goslett, is likely to cause controversy among biographers and historians. Although a physically intimate relationship between the men has long been rumoured, Dali told interviewers more than once that he rejected the homosexual Lorca's attempts to seduce him." AFTER THE JUMP, one more shot of Matthew McNulty as filmmaker Luis Buñuel, and Beltran as Lorca. Source: www.towleroad.com/

Robert is on the cover of portrait magazine!! Click here to see it.And this is the article about him: Robert Pattinson: More then just EdwardRobert Thomas Pattinson was born in London, England on May 13, 1986. He has two older sisters, Victoria and Izzy. His father’s name is Richard and his mother’s name is Clare. This 22-year-old is quickly burning up in the entertainment business and is making teens, not just around the country, but around the world, swoon. He has recently received much recognition on his acting and his good looks and with the upcoming and highly anticipated release of the Twilight adaption around the corner, in which he plays one of modern teen literatures most beloved heroes, fans fervor is only bound to grow. Pattinson has many nicknames that have accumulated amongst his family and friends, as well as his fans. There’s the name RPattz that fans around the world dubbed him as and of course, the ever so popular, Spunk Ransom, that Robert Pattinson gave himself in an MTV Twilight Tuesday interview. While those two nicknames stand out of the crowd from any other, he also goes by the nicknames, Rob and Patty, a name he was given by his surname. This actor, who also has musical talents, didn’t start getting into acting until the age of fifteen where he joined the Barnes Theatre Club. But it wasn’t his passion for acting that brought him to this school. Pattinson says, “My dad wanted me to be an actor,” and of course, the social aspect definitely factored in. "Drama school was a social thing. I literally went there one-hundred per cent to meet these girls sitting at the next table," He admits of his costars. Pattinson is most known for his roles in films as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and his role as Edward Cullen, in the up and coming, as well as definitely buzzed out about, Twilight. Although, his first big part in a film was actually a scene in Vanity Fair, it ended up being a deleted scene and put into the DVD as a special feature for the alternate ending. After, Pattinson took the role as Giselher in a TV film called, Ring of the Nibelungs. Then the role that put him on the map was soon after. Playing Cedric Diggory in the fourth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, Pattinson dug deep into his character to portray him just the right way. He went so far as to look online and see the comments of the readers of the book and has said, "I read a lot, as the shoot went on, and I read [Goblet of Fire] loads and loads of times. I sort of gradually found out about all these Harry Potter websites, and the comments they put in the forums I thought were really, really helpful, because they remind you of little things that you’ve never even noticed in the book, which are really helpful. There are lots of cool things, like even his main description, which was like ‘the strong silent type’ or something. I completely overlooked that in the book. And I read some fans saying that, so I’ll play it strong and silent." And all the hard work that he did was what made him fill in the shoes of the ever so popular, Cedric Diggory. Despite the pressures he felt in looking like perfection, as Cedric was supposed to, Pattinson nailed the role bringing the character to the big screen. His next film which came out in 2007 was the role of Toby Jugg in The Haunted Airman. The film was about a World War II flight lieutenant who was injured and had to use a wheelchair from then on after. The character he had to portray was very traumatized and shattered from experiences, which was a far cry from the awkward and truly interesting character he played in his next film, The Bad Mother’s Handbook where he played Daniel Gale. His role as Gale is a favorite of many because of complexity of emotions that Pattinson showed he could do and the acting that he was capable of. Just as all his films do, it showed his commitment and ability to really get inside the character and that bringing the character’s physical aspect is just as important, as Pattinson showed by going as far as playing his character Daniel, with slumped shoulders. The following projects that Pattinson worked on are currently unreleased, one of them being a short film called The Summerhouse where he played a character that leaves his girlfriend for another woman but ends up going back to her. The next two films that Rob worked on, although independent movies are getting quite the hype with audiences and fans. The first indie movie, How to Be, is about a character, Art, who is trying to find his way in life, and is frustrated while stuck in a life crisis. The character slowly realizes that life isn’t simple and that growing up, as well as finding your purpose in life are very real questions. In the movie, Pattinson shows the audience and his antsy fans some of his musical chops. He is a musician in the movie which mirrors Rob’s real life a little. Rob has said that music is his backup plan if acting doesn’t work out and with the reviews that Pattinson has been getting from fans and critics, he wouldn’t have trouble with using either one of these talents to work for him. He did so well with the character of Art that he won ‘Best Actor in a Feature’ Award at the Strasbourg Film Festival. The next indie film that Rob worked on was Little Ashes where Rob portrays the character of Salvador Dali. The film has been shown in a few film festivals like the Raindance film festival in London and is already receiving high praised reviews for Rob’s performance. The film, which fans are dying to see for many reasons, is considered to be daring and possibly controversial, which of course is one of the reasons why fans would love to see this actor tackle yet another intriguing and complex role. Then of course, the movie that has plastered Pattinson on the map of movie history, Twilight, and not to mention the movie hasn’t even come out yet. The movie buzz is taking over the internet, television and bookstores all around the world. It’s almost guaranteed that anywhere you go, in just a few feet, Twilight merchandise, a book from the best selling series or a magazine with a Twilight mention will be there. And our very own Rpattz plays the role of the swoon-worthy, well-loved, Edward Cullen. Not only does he get high praise from his fans about his acting and good looks but the director of Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke, has only nice things to say about him as well. She gives him accolades for his performance as Edward saying he embodies what it is to be Edward Cullen- that he is Edward Cullen. She has said in an interview, “He’s a beautiful musician, a very creative soul, very similar to Edward. He just totally reads the most interesting stuff, and sees the most interesting movies, and is very introspective and diving into his existential self.” With the pressure to be ‘perfection’ yet again, Pattinson dug deep into research for the role trying to get into the brooding mind of the vampire stuck in the body of seventeen-year-old. He read the book, Twilight, as well as draft of Midnight Sun given to him by author of the Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer. So how did Pattinson decide to play perfect Edward? Tortured. He realized that in the book, it can only be seen from Bella’s point of view, a girl who is head over heels. Knowing this, Robert went deep to see that Edward is a character, which can be seen as perfect from a love struck female but is actually a character that beats himself up for feeling too selfish. Rob joked, saying, “He’s the most ridiculous person who’s so amazing at everything." But his perception of Edward is what made Pattinson nail the role. A role that millions of fans are counting days to see brought to life. So what else can we expect from Robert other than films on the horizon, including a vampire movie expected to make millions? His music. Pattinson explains how his interest in music began and has grown, "I have been playing the piano for my entire life - since I was three or four. And the guitar - I used to play classical guitar from when I was about five to 12 years of age. Then I didn’t play guitar for like years. About four or five years ago, I got out the guitar again and just started playing blues and stuff. I am not very good at the guitar, but I am all right. I am in a band in London as well." In anticipation, fans are anxiously awaiting to hear Pattinson on the Twilight soundtrack, where he was asked to record for the film as well. With an array of different roles and complex characters, Robert Pattinson can only grow in the movies he will partake in the future. Whether it is in his acting or in his music, fans are definitely asking for more of him out there. With his quirkiness, talent, good looks and hard work, we can only wish this actor the best and keep a look out for more. Source: Portrait magazine

There is also an article about Kristen in portrait magazine!! Kristen Stewart: From strength to strength You’ve probably seen this gorgeous 18-year-old actress in movies like Zathura, Into the Wild, Panic Room and others, but what highlights this amazing actress is her new movie, Twilight, based on best-seller book by Stephenie Meyer. Starting Out:Most people remember her as a little diabetic kid, portraying Jodie Foster’s daughter in the suspense-thriller, Panic Room. Her breakthrough performance captivated everyone, and that opened up a million opportunities for her. Before she got her big chance on the big screen she had her first screen appearance in an Original Disney film called The Thirteenth Year, and afterwards she played Patricia Clarkson’s androgynous daughter in The Safety Of Objects. After the filming of Panic Room, she won a role in a dark thriller, starring Dennis Quaid and Sharon Stone, called Cold Creek Manor. The film’s successfulness was less than great. Her performance was duly noted, however, the story itself was a failure. Kristen told WWDScoop of her parents’ reaction when she expressed an interest in acting at the age of eight. “They were like, ‘Really? This is something you want to do? Because you know what hell this is,’” Hitting stardom:In 2004, Stewart landed the big kahuna, meaning her first lead role in a film, in Catch that Kid, a story about a girl who is planning to rob a bank in order to pay her father’s operation. Costarring Corbin Bleu who has recently received a lot of attention following his roles in all three High School Musical films, this film captivated younger audiences and made the best efforts to highlight stardom to this new rising young actress. The year 2005 was the year that she appeared in the Indie film, Speak, which was a best-selling novel by author Laurie Halse Anderson. Stewart managed to make the best performance as a quasi-mute girl with a painful past. Although the film didn’t appear in theaters, reviewers raved about Kristen’s brilliant performance as you could feel yourself in Melinda Sorvino’s shoes. Later that year, she appeared in the family film Zathura, a follow up to the nineties family adventure Jumanji, as the cranky big sister to young actors Jona Bobo and Josh Hutcherson. The critics loved the lighthearted fantasy film, although it was an underperformer in sales. As the years progressed, she appeared in numerous films from Indies to cameos in major ticket-sellers. Her small performance in the movie Into the Wild won her a nomination for Outstanding Role by the Screen Actors Guild, and the role in the new-to-come film Twilight, starring next to British actor Robert Pattinson. Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, The Nativity Story, Lords of Dogtown), while casting the main character of the film, went straight to Kristen Stewart not even minding of looking for other actresses in the process. “Kristen has a depth and dedication and toughness I’ve rarely encountered. Her career could be an amazing collision of characters. She has no limits…If the stars line up, Kristen could be winning the highest of accolades,” she told Moviefone. Kristen’s costars certainly seem to be happy with the decision. Sarah Clarke said of Kristen in a recent interview with Scifi.Com: “I think she’s just a phenomenal talent,; sweet and grounded despite having been in the business as long as she has. She’s a great actor and fun to work with.” While Cam Gigandet, the actor behind the villainous James said: “I think Kristen is kind of… unbelievable! I would love to work with her again.” Michael Welch told Portrait: “I don’t see how you can get a better Bella and Edward than Kristen and Robert. Once I heard that Kristen was playing Bella, it seemed like it made the story fit. She’s so interesting and has a mysterious quality about her that’s perfect for Bella.” The film will hit theaters on November 21, 2008. What’s next?Following the release of Twilight you can see Kristen in the films Adventureland, and Welcome to The Rileys. What just Happened? will also be released in October. Fans are of course hoping for sequels to Twilight. Author Stephenie Meyer commented the final book in the Twilight series; ‘Breaking Dawn’ could be adapted into two films, as is being done with the final Harry Potter, meaning there could be as many as three more Twilight films. “I love it because I love to tell stories. I like being in movies that have a great story. I'm not so interested in being a Hollywood star. It's a job, you know. When you wake up at six in the morning every day for a week, it feels like hard work.” Kristen said of her acting career. Time will tell if she continues on this particular career path. She has expressed interest in studying literature in collage and is an aspiring writer, perhaps influenced by her mother’s career as a screenwriter. “I definitely have a future in academics, but not right now.” Kristen once told Vanity Fair magazine she wasn’t sure if she wanted to be a ‘professional liar’ for the rest of her life. But considering her talent, clever choices of films and strong fan base, if Kristen leaves the big screen it will undoubtedly be her choice and not due to a lack of opportunity.. Interesting Facts:- Her father John Stewart works for FOX as a stage manager and producer, while her mother is an Australian screenwriter.
- She went to school until the seventh grade then continued on an independent study course.
- She also aspires to be a writer and continue her academic route now that she has graduated high school, but she feels that will come later in her life.
- She is currently dating Sky High star, Michael Angarano.
- Stewart is a big fan of Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Van Morrison.
- Kristen owns a 1995 Toyota Tacoma.
- She loves Converse shoes, Levi’s and Gucci.
- She had no idea Twilight even existed when she got cast as protagonist Isabella Swan.
