Just a recap of Mark’s interview, but I thought it was good to read
One Tree Hill returned for its sixth season on Monday with impressive numbers for The CW network, and enough drama and intrigue to get viewers hooked all season long. But show creator Mark Schwahn reveals that there’s more in store this season for the show’s fans and music lovers as well.
“This year, we’re going to do something unprecedented…I don’t know anyone else who’s done it. We’re gonna go to the rock world and we’re gonna get artists to be guest composers for One Tree Hill this year,” Mark Schwahn said in an interview with The CW.
“[The] third episode [of season 6] is actually gonna be composed by Matthew Ryan, an artist we’ve really supported through his solo work and his work with Strays Don’t Sleep,” he added.
Ryan is a singer-songwriter whose music can be roughly characterized as alternative country. He is credited for “Return to Me”, “Irrelevant”, “I Can’t Steal You”, “For Blue Skies”, “Jane I Still Feel The Same” and “For Blue Skies,” which were all featured on One Tree Hill. Recently, he came up with Matthew Ryan vs. The Silver State, his latest album on 00:02:59 and One Little Indian.
Additionally, Schwahn revealed that Grace Potter of the Vermont-based band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals is going to do an episode of One Tree Hill. The 25-year-old vocalist recently gained national attention with her band’s newest album “This Is Somewhere,” which blends funky blues, soul and rock from the ‘60s and early ‘70s.
On top of that, Schwahn is also in talks with Ryan Adams, alternative-country rock singer who is probably best known for his song “New York, New York,” which was included on his 2001 release “Gold.” He has since released four more solo albums and three albums with backing band, The Cardinals. His latest EP, “Follow The Lights,” was released on October 23, 2007.
“Another great way to bring the best music that we love to fans of music and fans of One Tree Hill,” Schwahn said of his idea to further infusing music to the show.
