Update on Season 7 from Ask Ausiello
Question: Do you have any news on One Tree Hill? We heard that Mark Schwahn had asked The CW for a decision on season 7 by 1 January so that he could write an appropriate season ending. — Nathan Ausiello: Not Jan. 1, but a decision will be made soon. It’s all about contracts now. The cast only signed six-year pacts, so new deals will have to be brokered. Negotiations are happening as we speak.

Are One Tree Hill, Supernatural and Smallville Safe?Star Sophia Bush tells me, “We don’t know [if we'll be back for another season]. The network keeps saying it’s up to the cast, but no one has offered us another season, so we’ll see. There are a lot of variables that would have to work out properly for people, but as long as there are good stories to tell, I think we’re up to continuing to tell them. We’re having a great time. We have such great guest stars on our show right now—Austin Nichols is one of my dearest friends. We actually went on, like, four dates after I split up from you know who, years and years ago, and we’ve been, like, the best of friends ever since. We’re a big family at this point.” Predicted Response to One Tree Hill Cancellation: 8.8 on the fan Richter scale Chances of Renewal: Even. The fans are always down for more One Tree Hill, but the cast, the writers, the studio and the network have plenty of financial, contractual and creative issues to work out before a new season is a sure thing. The good news for OTH fans is that executive producer Mark Schwahn is no longer attached to the CW’s new Melrose Place retread, so until further notice, he is free to focus on your Tree Hill faves. Source: E OnlineI guess it wasn't hard for Sophia and Austin to do those kiss scenes.

It seems like this means that we WILL have a Season 7....
Season 7 without Chad???
OTHfans.com has the exclusive news... that One Tree Hill will continue on for a 7th season. But will the entire cast be returning? No says a very close source to the show. Chad Michael Murray will not return for the new season. The source says Chad decided not to renew his contract because he is ready to move on to more roles in movies.
How will this affect the show? It will be an interesting One Tree Hill without it's main cast member.

I'm not sure if I'm gonna follow OTH for a season 7 if Chad isn't in it! I mean, OTH IS about Lucas! It's about Lucas's world and everything around it! Okay, Lucas and Nathan, but still! I want all or nothing! But not just a bit!

UPDATE: I wanted to post that we are getting e-mails from the producers of OTH denying what is reported here. They state that "... No decisions have been made and negotiations with the actors, including Chad, have just begun. The network has not ordered a seventh season and the studio is in early negotiation stages with the actors just in case the network decides to bring us back, in other words, NOTHING has been determined yet." With that stated, I can only go by what sources say since I am not part of the negotiation process. I do not work for the show and I do not work for the Network. Therefore I do not know FIRST HAND what is going on. The original source is VERY VERY close to the show, but is not a producer or a Network employee. I can not release who the source is, however, I have complete 100% trust in what they are reporting. And I feel that the producers are simply doing damage control. Think what you want for now, but in time, we will find out from the OFFICIAL sources.

I see this as good news, 'cause I hope that IF Chad isn't in, they will not going to have a season 7 or something like that!

Just found this link on fanforum... CW Signals It’s Sticking Around by Renewing 6 Series[/b] By Josef Adalian In the clearest sign yet that The CW will live to fight another season, the network has given early renewals to a half-dozen existing series, including Superman drama “Smallville.” The CW President Dawn Ostroff began telephoning executives at Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Network Television about the decision Tuesday morning. The network could announce the news as early as this afternoon. In addition to “Smallville,” the series renewed for next season are “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “America’s Next Top Model” (cycles 13 and 14), “One Tree Hill” and “Supernatural.” While the solid ratings for all six shows made pickups likely, the renewals were not all foregone conclusions. In the case of “Smallville,” producer Warner Bros. Television had been negotiating with series star Tom Welling to return. The CW’s renewal indicates the studio was successful in those conversations. There also had been a question of whether The CW itself would survive for another season. In recent months, however, it’s become increasingly clear that the network has moved to more solid ground. The network has had a decent 2008-09 season, with the successful launch of “90210” and the strong pairing of “Gossip Girl” and “One Tree Hill” on Monday nights. All three shows have posted double-digit Nielsen gains compared to their timeslot averages last season. The CW also has had success building its brand as a destination for young female viewers. With six tentpole series renewed for next season, there aren’t that many holes in The CW’s 2009-10 schedule left to be filled. What’s more, two projects currently in development—a reimagination of “Melrose Place” and the “Gossip Girl” prequel “Lily”—are very likely to land series orders for next season, making it even more difficult for new shows to get on the air. Nonetheless, The CW has an active development slate beyond “Melrose” and “Lily.” Two buzzworthy projects in the works include “Vampire Diaries” and “Light Years.” The CW also just picked up drama “The Beautiful Life.” Shows on the bubble at The CW include “Reaper,” “Privileged,” “The Game” and “Everybody Hates Chris.” The latter series, which has already filmed enough episodes for syndication, is considered a long shot to return. It’s also unclear what direction The CW will move on Friday and Sunday nights next fall, although both nights could provide logical homes for new programming. It’s unlikely, however, that The CW will program a full night of first-run scripted fare on Sundays Source: TVweek.com So does this mean that Chad's signed up or not?!? Because its everywhere on the forums that he hasn't. Apparently when he met fans recently he said he thinks the show should end now and he's not returning- these are girls who visited the set btw, which I hope he didn't say! ... Sorry to say it but if Chad's not in, I don't know if I can watch it. If he's gone then the show would have lost it's point- its story, what about the two brothers? The boy who didnt fit in but changed things? .. It would make things so pointless But yeah the Chad part might not be true (I hope not!!!), guess we'll all know soon enough..

It's true that One Tree Hill will get a season 7, but this is what OTH fans posted: Season 7: No Chad... or Hilarie?
OTHfans.com had the EXCLUSIVE news that Chad would not be renewing his contract and with today's official announcement that there will be a 7th season, comes more news from our sources.
Once again, the source continues to confirm that Chad did NOT renew his contract. My source also confirmed that Hilarie Burton did not renew her contract. Both say that for personal and career reasons they have decided not to renew their contracts.
For a "spoiler" version of this story... please click here! Warning... it is VERY spoilerish regarding Lucas and Peyton.
I am sure the network and the producers will try to deny this information as they did before. However we stand by what we report here as accurate and we trust in our source 100%. We have NEVER in 6 years of this website reported false information from the set. This website is here to PROMOTE the show and I strongly feel that starting/spreading rumors is not a form of promoting. If I was not confident in my sources information 100%, I would NOT post it.
So I don't know anymore! A show that started with 5 main characters that goes on with 7 season with only 3?? I hope that the rest of the cast doesn't renew the contracts than either, because I still want everyone or no-one! And with this news the news about season 7 doesn't even makes me happy! I don't know what to believe anymore! I will probably watch season 7, just to see how it is, but I don't think I will like it!

Now, see I would still watch with or with out the whole cast. I think that I am probably the only one that would.
I think the actors are just trying to make the best decisions for their careers, but they don't get that this show MADE their careers, ALL OF THEM would not be as 'big' as they are now with out One Tree Hill putting them on the map. I can't wait to see them all more on the big screen, but I would still watch OTH with or without the whole cast there.

I probably will watch the new season too, but I can't image it to be as good as the last 4 seasons without Chad and Hilary! But it's true that One Tree Hill made their career! I think that Chad would have made it without it, maybe Hilary and Sophia too, but I doubt that Bethany and James would have made it so far without One Tree Hill!! This show really made their career! I mean, I'm from the Netherlands and I even know them, but only because of OTH, not because I heard of them otherwise, I only knew Chad (which was kind of the reason why I started to watch OTH in the first place! haha). But I think I will watch too, just to see how it goes on!

Here is more news about Hilary's and Chad's maybe leaving:
Hilarie Burton Speaks Out
So, this is developing news. I’m seeing links and reading here and at FF about a video that was posted of Hilarie on her SGP blog that has since been taken down. From descriptions, it was clear she was not coming back to Season 7. Fans describe what she says:
She talks about how she want people to know how much she loves OTH, the crew and Peyton Sawyer and how she wish she had creative control of the show. She also doesnt want anyone to think that she abandoning a show that has been good to her. She stills wants us to watch the show and support it. She did say had a good run. She didnt flat out say she was leaving, but it was kinda obvious she is.
Watch with Kristin on CMM and HB leaving
Rumors of the actors leaving the series have been greatly exaggerated. While it’s true that the CW ordered a new season without having signed contracts with CMM and Burton, it turns out that’s because the CW doesn’t have signed contracts (yet) with any of the OTH talent.
Now, it’s certainly possible that CMM and Burton could leave (there’s no definite news either way), but overall, you can rest your pretty little heads about this issue, as we’ve been told by a reliable insider, “Obviously, most if not all [of the castmembers] are coming back.”

As weird as it sounds... its kind of a good thing that Hilaries going. After all if it was just Chad then what about the storyline of Peyton and Lucas? ... its not like I would believe that he would just leave, what with the pregnancy storyline and all, at least now they can decide on a nice realistic ending- maybe Peyton and Lucas leave to live near Karen? Or maybe they have to move for some reason relating to the baby or their careers? It makes a lot more sence that they are going together I'm so sad they're going though After all they're two of my fave characters!! (after NH & J that is) To be honest I'm surprised that Mark's continuing with OTH, Peyton and Lucas have always been his favourite- doesn't he really love Hilarie as well? He's said so in interviews before... I guess I'm just shocked... it just seems so weird that the show will continue without two of its main characters.. I just dont see it happening to be honest. ...Maybe the CW will change their mind, or Chad/Hil might... either way I don't know if I'm going to watch Season 7. I dont really want to see a show revolved around Brooke, Julian and Sam- a few characters I dont really care that much about (I know people will disagree with that! I think its just me...) - if they decide to give Haley a storyline for once, and have a nice NHJ plot then I will. But if they make the others the main characters, then no. But yeah sorry for my rant aha- I'm just shocked at it all to be honest. Thanks for posting the info Mariska!

Yea it seems so odd that they'l both be leaving although now it's pretty much definate that Lucas and Peyton wont be back. It makes me really sad but like Emma said it's good that they get to leave together, and hopefully it'l be in a good way, not more deaths or anything. I'll continue to watch but i'm guessing that a lot of fans wont, I think we can say that season 7's gonna be it guys, but we had a good run. This all makes me really sad This show's such a big part of my life.

I totally agree with both of you! I just can't image the show to go on without Lucas and Peyton! They are one of my favorite characters, altho I love every one of them! I just don't know what to think about this anymore! It isn't official yet, altho Hilary was pretty clear in her video that she won't come back! But I would hate to have one more season that sucks! If that's the point, I don't mind if the show stops after this season! But if it continues, I know I will watch, just to see how the storylines go on, but I can't image the show to be good and that really is aweful because the show is a big part of my life too and I hate to see people leave like this! I don't know and I hope that Mark can convince Chad and Hilary to stay... but I don't know!

Well from the sounds of it hilarie doesnt want to go, she said if she had creative control she would stay but she doesnt. I think that means that Mark has made the decision that if Chad goes it would be best for the show if hilarie went too, atleaast then Lucas and Peyton could stay together.

Yeah, I get your point of view and I agree. It just really sucks and I don't like it, but I guess we have to see how it goes. I heard that they might come back now and than as guest stars, like Karen and Andy did in season 5. I really hope that would happen! But I still hate that the show goes on with only 3 of the 5 most important characters! I don't get that Mark allows them to go!

Yeah it does make sence why Mark isn't including Hilarie.. for the storyline of Lucas/Peyton and all. ... but I just dont think its a good idea to continue it without any of the main characters full stop. Sadly, I doubt that many people will watch (the people who watch for LP won't, and thats a big percentage) - and it might mean bad ratings. So isn't it best for them to stop the show on a high instead of dying out if that makes sence? I don't know.. I agree that the shows been an important part of my life as well, for years now! And I really don't want to give it up.. but I don't want to watch it without the characters, because its not the same show I fell in love with back in season one at all and thats kind of upsetting

I don't think many people will watch and I think it definally will not be the show that we love and that we know! I don't think it will be better with only Naley and Brooke! Maybe Julian will stay, and I would like that, but it won't be the same! They need much more extra characters if they cut out 2 main characters! And I really don't want this show to die!! I would be okay if the show stops this season with a bang, more than having 2 characters leave and go on with 3! I want all or nothing and I hope that Mark will want that too! I don't want to give up on the show either! I will still watch every episode, just because I want to know how it continues and because I can't turn my back to it and I will buy the dvdset when it comes out, just because I want it to be complete, but I don't think I will like it as much as I did last few years, just because I can't image the show to be good with only 3 of the 5 main characters.

Yea I know but really Mark isn't to blame. I mean if the Netword has said that they want a 7th season then they have to take it. Like Hilarie was saying in her message to the fans, it keeps a lot of people in work for another year, not only the remaining cast but the crew too!
If anyone is to blame I think it is Chad but I understand why he wants to go.
