'New Moon' Casting News: Michael Copon, Ben Barnes Push For Roles In 'Twilight' Sequel Copon is hoping to replace Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, while Barnes aims for mind-reading vampire Aro. [/b] By Larry CarrollWhen Bella Swan moved to Forks, Washington, she found her whole life in upheaval. The embittered teenager was forced to replace her old friends with new ones and found her everyday comforts replaced by uncertainty, doubt and fear for the future. These days, "Twilight" fans are feeling closer to their heroine than they ever thought possible. Following last week's dismissal and replacement of Catherine Hardwicke, this weekend began with a press release from Summit Entertainment officially appointing "New Moon" director Chris Weitz to the job. Suspicious in its omission of Taylor Lautner, the release seemed to all but confirm Twilighter whispers that Hardwicke won't be the last "Twilight" talent replaced before the sequel. So where does the series go from here? MTV News can confirm that 26-year-old "Scorpion King 2" actor Michael Copon [pronounced "COPE-on"] is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob Black. A representative for Copon told us that they're making a full effort to land the high-profile gig. And in a bit of 21st-century self-publicity, the actor has even recently updated his Facebook status with messages like: "Michael Copon [is] in a Twilight Zone!" and "Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!" Copon's representative confirmed to MTV News that the Facebook page is run by the actor himself and that those are indeed his words. Approached for comment on Lautner's omission from the "New Moon" press release, Summit confirmed that it was not a typographical error. "The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made," a representative told MTV News. But even once Copon (or whoever else) is officially announced as the new Jacob, Weitz still has many other key casting decisions to make and an extremely brief amount of time in which to make them. With barely 12 weeks until cameras are due to begin rolling, the "Golden Compass" filmmaker needs to find faces to portray several key characters — including the peace-keeping, Italian vampires known as the Volturi. With the buzz building for these roles, MTV News has confirmed that 27-year-old "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" heartthrob Ben Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the "Twilight" fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose "New Moon" encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together. Where does the "Twilight" franchise go from here? At the moment, the only person who knows is Weitz himself. Stay tuned to MTV News for the very latest on Copon, Barnes and any other names yet to emerge. Source: MTV movies blog Wow... Ben Barnes! ;D I sure hope so! He was also in Stardust for like 5 minutes lol, but it was a great 5 minutes! He's not what i imagined for Aro, i was hoping that Johnny Depp could audition (wishful thinking, i know.) but I'm hoping Ben can get the role! All I can say is good luck to Micheal Copon also! I think its annoying that people are actually insulting him for auditioning- its summit who want to replace Taylor and getting this role would improve his career! What guy wouldnt audition?! .. Plus, I think he would make a good Jacob. I atually added him on facebook out of curiosity and it is actually his real facebook made by him, I saw one of his videos.. he seemed really full of himself lol.. so PERFECT for Jacob.. haha.

I dont think Micheals got the role quite yet, he's in the final few left though so he's one of the favourites and he must be confident he got it to put it on his facebook, so its looking like he will! And I dont know if you've seen the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, but Bens from that, he played Prince Caspian.. Heres his IMDB page I really think he looks the part! Plus i kind of like that he's English also! ;D First an English actor playing Edward, now hopefully Aro also! I'm hoping he gets the role!

OMG, I finished New Moon last night and I did picture Aro as an old man! So I guess I had that wrong! Ben looks young and hot! I didn't expected that! haha

Haha, yeah I also imagined Aro as old! Well, I sort of thought of him as 40-ish really, so yeah he's kind of young, thats not bad though! ;D It never did say his physical age though..

No, indeed, but for some reason I imaged him as big, huge, and pretty old, you know, my father kind of old. Maybe because they said that he is 3000 years old, it's hard to image a really young guy being that old haha. So weird!

Michael Copon: I’m Not Jacob Black…YetHoping for the role of a lifetime, Michael Copon opened up to PopStar.com and dished about becoming a part of the Twilight empire. The 26-year-old former One Tree Hill bad boy cleared up all the rumors floating around the internet about filling Taylor Lautner’s shoes in the role of Jacob Black. He shared, “I think that it is pretty clear that there are huge rumors going around the Internet about me up for the role as Jacob Black. At this point, they are only rumors. There are a lot of opinions going around on the Internet about this role. It is definitely a role of a lifetime and I would love to have that chance.” WHAT DO YOU THINK about Michael taking over as Jacob Black? Source: JJJ

I’ve been working out since the day we finished filming Twilight. I just weighed myself today; I’ve put on 19 pounds. I think im Team Taylor on all of this, Reading interviews with Micheal makes him seem really arrogant! He keeps basically bragging saying he would look better in the part then Taylor and that he would be able to bring all the different parts of Jacob's personality to the role where Taylor wouldn't- and then he admitted he hasn't even read New Moon!! Basically, Taylor is actually a huge fan of the books and really cares about the role, but Micheal just wants it to further his career.. I dont really mind who gets the role as I don't even like Jacob! Haha, at least they're not considering re-casting for Edward, then there would be problems!! Haha.

haha, totally agreed! I don't like Micheal! Haven't in OTH and I still don't! I can't believe he want the role when he hasn't even read the book, nor the role is open as far as we know!

Pattinson Eyes A Problem For Vampire Sequel
Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson isn't looking forward to reprising his blood-sucking role in the hit film's sequel New Moon - because he has to wear uncomfortable contact lenses for the part.
The British star played vampire Edward Cullen in the box office adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's cult book, and has signed a multi-million dollar deal to play the character again in the franchise's second outing in 2010.
But he is dreading preparing to shoot the new venture - because wearing his character's topaz coloured contacts is such a painful ordeal.
He tells Britain's Ok! magazine, "Wearing coloured contact lenses... It was like I constantly had sand in my eyes. I was wearing them for three months constantly and my eyes never ever accepted them! It took me 20 minutes per eye every single day and I ended up having to literally fold it into my eyeball."
And the star believes the dreaded lenses may inhibit his acting skills - because he couldn't properly portray his character's emotions due to the "two orange blobs" in his eyes.
He adds, "It was frustrating as well because normally your eyes are saying something, but if you've got two orange blobs in your face it's so annoying!
"The director (Catherine Hardwicke) would say, 'Look at her (Kristen Stewart) like you love her,' and I'd be like, 'I'm trying!' I'm going to have to do it again because we're making the sequel next year."

I will do! Its a good summary.. though if I had wrote it I doubt I would put in the word 'irresistable' to describe Jacob.. haha. Plus it kind of puts even more doubt on Taylor being Jacob, because im sure they would have credited him if he was... hmm..

Yeah, I wouldn't either!!
I know, but they didn't mention the woman who plays alice, or anyone else, so i think they just don't wanna pay much attention to it yet, and announce it when they figured it out! Or when they start shooting...

The announcement about who will play Jacob is finally out! This is what the site from Stephenie Meyer says: Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year. - Steph Source: www.stepheniemeyer.com

Thats good!! He deserves the role way more then Micheal anyway! And Chris is right, appearence doesnt matter and its best for them to be emotionally right for the part, Micheals not even that good an actor! Whereas Taylor did twilight Jacob great! - being happy-go-lucky and showing the early stages of him liking Bella that is! and at least Taylor has read the books, plus he really is a genuine fan of them, thats a good thing, right? haha..
